Highlands

The Highlands of the glorious country of Scotland have a lot to offer, from expanses of beautiful green countryside to a rich cultural heritage and history, ensuring that any visit to this unique region will be something special.

The Highland Festivals are located in an area of the United Kingdom that is populated only sparsely, making it one of the most peaceful and tranquil places in Europe. With a population that is less than half a million people and nearing only a quarter of a million, it is an area of the world that has less humans than many other European countries, including Sweden and Norway as well as world destinations like Argentina.

But this is not the only reason to visit the highlands, for the people that have settled here make up part of a vibrant culture that has its routes in Gaelic and Celtic traditions, which is found in the music and celebrations that they take part in. There are also cities, such as Inverness that provide visitors with an assortment of things to do. The Highlands are set apart from the rest of Scotland, particularly the Lowlands as the culture and traditions are at contrast, making it a different experience to visiting any other part of the country.

Another unique part of the highlands is that fact that they have no definite boundary. They instead exist as a large part of Scotland that stretches as far south as cities such as Stirling right up to Inverness and beyond, with hundreds of islands and small communities making up this beautiful part of the world.

By visiting the Highlands you will also be witnessing an area with a long and interesting history. There are ancient remains and brochs that are features of a landscape filled with hills and mountains, with towns that have their origins far back in history and have old Gaelic names to show for them. These settlements are so formed due to Gaelic speaking rule from clans including the Camerons, the Macdonalds and the Mackays with examples such ass Langwell and Diabaig. Out of it all has been born the many different traditions and cultural artefacts that define this part of the world and make up a large part of the Highlands festival.
